Sharing my political updates
Friends, since May I’ve been periodically sending email updates to friends about my thoughts on the political and social landscape as well as calls to action for giving and activism. I feel truly fortunate to have love, stability and safety in my life, and feel it to be my duty to work for those issues and causes about which I am passionate and where I can make a difference. While I’ve always had political thoughts and ideas I’ve never really considered myself to be “political”. The current environment has changed all that, and it has spurred a level of engagement, activism and giving that dwarfs my previous activities. Again, I am deeply conscious of my good circumstance and, therefore, the awesome responsibility to give, to work and to advocate for those whom I feel are being treated unfairly. I’ve heard that my words and efforts are occasionally useful or inspirational to others, and in that spirit want to more broadly share my notes to friends over the past three months and to begin to share subsequent pieces in a more public forum. If you find this thread to be dissonant with your mental model of who Roger Ehrenberg is - venture capitalist, Wall Street trading executive, baseball fan, doting husband and dad - feel free to take a pass. But what I will say is that whether discussing startups, the markets or my views of the MLB owners or the MLBPA, I am and always have been 100% the same person on a stage, writing a post or in quiet moments with family and friends. So there is no new news here, it’s only that the times have changed.
Thanks for listening. I’ll share notes in chronological order from when I first started writing them.
