9/19/2020 - RBG's dead, it's Rosh Hashana and time to win back the Senate

Fellow Activists, I know we are all mourning the loss of RBG, a brilliant justice, lawyer, feminist, trailblazer and fighter. The irony that she died as we enter the holiest days of the Jewish year is not lost on me, particularly on Erev Rosh Hashana. This is to be a time of rebirth, reflection, and the opportunity for a fresh start with optimism and love in our hearts. As at no other point in my lifetime have I felt pushed to the edges of faith and hope, where the state of our country and the world seems so bleak, and where the hidden forces powering the universe are conspiring against the goals of humanity, equality, justice, love and peace. As humans we have the fight-or-flight instincts embedded in our DNA, and it's understandable that with the crush of threats to our democracy, our self-perceptions as Americans and as citizens with a common purpose that we'd want to throw up our hands and run away. But perceived hopelessness is not an excuse for inaction. Quite the opposite. Now more than ever we need to lean on each other, derive energy and drive from shared purpose and work hard - as hard as we possibly can - to work towards justice, freedom and equality for all. We now have to focus on what we can control: process, efforts, energy, passion and enthusiasm. If we can only harness this power, together, then not only can we win - we will win.
