7/24/2020 - the White House wages war on US citizens
friends and allies,
if you're new to this list and want to get some of my previous updates, please ping me and i'll forward them along.
another week, another set of examples that we're living in a scary dystopian crazy-town environment in our country. i honestly don't have the time or energy to list them all but let's just consider a few. we have federal troops de-facto waging war on our fellow citizens in portland. this has directly impacted portland mayor wheeler, peaceful observers and journalists merely doing their jobs. thankfully the courts are putting a halt to the indiscriminate use of force, but the larger issue of using our nation's military to carry the president's strongman agenda is clear. and portland is only the first city where he's contemplating sending in federal forces. there is no precedent for the way he's using our federal troops, but as with so many things that didn't seem possible, he's not beyond doing what he feels provides the best tv, constitution, morals or ethics be damned. and make no mistake, his cronies in the senate still have the majority, and continue to be his enablers at every turn. while there is some modest pushback where the president's pr doesn't best serve the senators' tv interests, it's certainly not coming from a place of righteousness or independent thought.
and while this issue might not be close to the heart of some of you, the president's nomination of judy shelton to the federal reserve is yet another example of appointing someone to a body whose real interest is in burning down the institution they're supposed to serve. we saw this with the epa - from scott pruitt to andrew wheeler, sycophants who know less than nothing about protecting the environment and instead have enabled the rollback of regulations and encouraged practices to stifle research. who better to nominate to sit on the federal reserve than someone who doesn't believe the federal reserve should exist? whether it's the fed or the courts, this administration has set us back generations. and the crazy thing is that this has been done at a time when popular opinion is moving in the opposite direction, but he's been wildly effective in working towards entrenching white, male, christian, straight, dominance by the wealthy with nationalistic, fear mongering, hateful rhetoric.
i'm tired, frustrated and scared but can't stop, won't stop.
fyi, while i get great feedback on my notes, they have yielded disappointing results from a fund raising perspective. carin and i write checks all the the time. and you don't need our means to be involved, and it's not fair to assume that others will pick up the slack. our future is at stake, and there is no substitute for giving and grass roots activism. and by all means, feel free to do both. we do.
if you can't attend an event, you can give to the Biden campaignhere.
below are two events i'm signing up for right now, but there are an array of others that have something for everyone.
let's get this done and run through the finish line, people.
