11/14/2020 - the need for Democratic unification and the upcoming GA Senate races
Friends,
Much has happened since my last note. It has been both spiritually and physically trying as Election Week was characterized by perhaps the most consequential election of our lifetimes, my own surgery to fix a torn biceps tendon, my 90-year old mom's fall and subsequent two surgeries and my best friend's (aka my wife Carin's) birthday. All of us have emerged from the chaos and stress and are doing well, thankfully. It was a roller coaster of emotions that left me drained, excited, relieved but also acutely aware that we still live in a sharply polarized society and perhaps even a fractured and damaged Democratic Party. Rep. Elissa Slotkin's words in this recent Politico article drive home this point. One only needs to look at the preliminary data to see that unexpected Democratic losses in both Congressional and State races and pockets where Trump actually gained votes are telling a story that cannot be ignored: the Democratic Party truly needs to become the big tent it espouses to be, and needs to coalesce around messaging that reflects its priorities without alienating half of the country (or perhaps more, given the breadth of views held by centrist Democrats everywhere). This is the challenge faced by the incoming Biden/Harris Administration as well as Democratic candidates running in 2022.
In the meantime, Carin and I are committed to helping Biden/Harris achieve as many legislative successes as possible, which means winning both GA Senate races on January 5th and enabling the Biden/Harris team to hit the ground running when they take control.
GA Senate Races: We're co-hosting an event with candidates Warnock and Ossoff on November 30th featuring Senator Cory Booker.
You've all been so generous with your time and money, but we have to run through the finish line here. These are two critical causes to help all the work we put into getting the Biden/Harris team to victory achieve maximum impact. Thanks in advance for your continued support.
In solidarity.
Roger
