10/5/2020 - Narcissism, boggled minds and running through the finish line
Friends,
Has it only been a week? It feels like a year. Trump's behavior post-COVID diagnosis and his sycophants continued enablement of his sadistic and destructive behavior continues to boggle even the most boggled minds. I think the whole vibe was perfectly summarized by Steve Schmidt, one of the founders of the Lincoln Project, in a series of tweets that is summarized in one place here. I urge you to check it out both for catharsis and the reminder that we collectively need to run through the finish line and to take nothing for granted. Screw polls - it's about GETTING TO THE POLLS. If there is any doubt remaining that allowing the current president to remain in office wouldn't just threaten our democracy, but demonstrate what a weak group of citizens we really are, either too apathetic, too entitled, too busy or too beaten down to actually get up, get out and vote. I do not believe that we are weak. I believe that we're justifiably enraged, horrified and motivated to flip the bit at all levels, and to take control of a society badly in need of mending, both spiritually and economically. It is all of our responsibilities to act - now.
I'd like to close with a subset of Steve Schmidt's twitter rant, because it perfectly captures both ground truth and our responsibility to act.
There should be no political mercy shown toward Trump and Trumpism in this moment. Mr. Vice President, your duty requires you to order your campaign to put its ads back on the air. Trump is out of money. Spend him into the ground.
Georgia is close. Mike Espy is close in Mississippi. The Kansas senate race is close. Trumpism is an authoritarian and UNAMERICAN ideology that teems with menace and intimations of violence. It is a cult of personality led by a lethal liar who lacks intelligence, grace empathy and competence.
Trumpism is a scourge. It is a metastic cancer. We need to crush it. Should Trump be disadvantaged in this moment, then we should rejoice. Pour it on. Vote him out. No let up.
The pace and intensity of attacks should be increasing and should not stop until he is humiliated and sent home to face the judgment of history, and in hopefully a good long time, his maker.
GIVE AND GIVE NOW. AND BY ALL MEANS, GET OUT AND VOTE!!!
